There's a Howl Of A Protest Coming

For the last few weeks, the Proag Wearparts Team has been out on the road catching up with customers across New Zealand. While out, the guys have noticed a couple of very common themes. Our Rural Communities are frustrated, and everyone is talking about the Howl Of A Protest happening Friday 16th July in more than 50 locations across NZ.  

 

The Howl Of  A Protest  is a nation wide peaceful protest organised by Groundswell NZ, where Farmers and Growers will be joined by industry support people, tradesmen and contractors fed up with unworkable regulations and unjustifiable costs. This protest looks to raise concerns with not only the “Ute Tax” but on government policy surrounding  issues such as SNA’s, the availability of skilled seasonal rural workers, freshwater management, indigenous biodiversity and NZ's emissions trading scheme. 

 

The key message we are hearing from within our rural communities is they are not against change. They are onboard with improving environmental outcomes. In fact there are endless example across the country where farmers have been proactive in their conservation efforts on their land for decades already. But being a practical bunch they are after workable, cohesive solutions that successfully achieve the desired outcomes.

 

Many are finding the current regulations and proposals are fragmented, overly complex and cost prohibitive. The “one size fits all approach’ is often impractical, fails to recognise the large variation in NZ’s climate and shows a lack of consultation with local communities. The effects of these regulations will be wide reaching, and the impacts extend beyond the farm gate.
